About

Direct work, clear ownership.

We design water and wastewater systems for communities across Colorado and the Mountain West, with the kind of clear ownership that comes from a focused practice and right-sized teams.

The Firm

A small firm, by design.

Martinson Consulting Engineers is a Colorado-based, multi-state licensed civil engineering firm specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure for small and mid-size communities across the Mountain West. We serve municipalities, districts, and private utilities with planning, design, and construction support services.

Our principal-led structure provides direct engineering oversight from scoping through startup, supported by a trusted network of specialized subconsultants and industry partners when projects call for it.

No handoffs. No internal silos. Direct accountability.

Best Fit For
  • Lift stations, pumping, and storage reliability issues
  • Funding-driven projects (SRF, USDA RD)

Our Approach

Three principles at every stage.

Field-driven design

We design from real operating conditions, not just calculations. Operators and field staff inform our design decisions.

Regulatory coordination

We coordinate early with CDPHE and local agencies so reviews stay efficient as requirements evolve.

Transparent communication

Direct access to the engineer leading the work. Status, risks, and tradeoffs in language boards and operators can act on.

Principal

Nathan Martinson, PE

Founder & Principal

Nathan founded Martinson Consulting Engineers to deliver water and wastewater engineering with clear ownership from scoping through startup. He has nearly two decades of experience in the field, beginning with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in 2006.

Before founding MCE, Nathan served as a project lead and responsible engineer at established Mountain West consulting firms, leading treatment process design, conveyance, and owner’s advisor work for municipalities, special districts, and private utilities.

MCE was founded to bring that experience into a direct-oversight structure with no handoffs and clear lines of accountability. The firm focuses on funding readiness, CDPHE coordination, and compliance-driven upgrades for systems across Colorado and the Mountain West. Clients work directly with the principal from initial conversation through review and permitting, supported by a trusted network of specialized subconsultants when projects call for it.
